I came to this from sports journalism, originally covering sides nobody outside the town cared about, and the betting angle pulled me in once I realised the markets often read a fixture more sharply than the match reports did. Most of my week goes on reading what the rest of the team puts together, asking the awkward questions, and writing the wider weekend previews where you need to step back and look across leagues rather than dive into a single fixture. I don't specialise the way the others do. My job is to keep the bigger picture in view: how the fixture calendar is squeezing certain squads, where the markets lean too heavily on reputation, and which storylines are getting in the way of clear thinking.

What I care about most is that we don't oversell anything. Tipping is a humbling business, and the writers I respect are the ones who show their reasoning, accept the cold runs, and don't reach for hype when a match is genuinely a coin flip. That's the standard I try to hold our pages to. If you read us regularly, I'd rather you came away with a sharper way of thinking about a fixture than a hot pick to slap on a slip.
