Some clubs carry a goals-market reputation the numbers don't support. Tottenham aren't one of them. Across 798 Premier League matches from 2005/06–2025/26, both teams scored in 56.8% of their games, against a league average of 51.3% in the same seasons. Among the 13 clubs with the most Premier League matches in that span, they rank 1 of 13.
This is the file I open before Spurs appear on my today's BTTS tips page. The edge is real but uneven. It lives away from home and in games where Tottenham aren't heavy favourites, and it has narrowed over the years. One caveat up front: no BTTS prices are recorded in the match history, so everything here is hit rates and fair odds rather than betting returns, and past rates are a starting base rate, not a forecast.
Exhibit AAway from home, both halves of the bet hold up
BTTS needs two things to happen, and the weaker of the two sets the limit. Tottenham scored in 81.3% of their league matches, and their opponents scored in 70.6%. That makes the opponent's goal the half of the bet that fails more often. When a Spurs BTTS ticket loses, the usual reason is a clean sheet, not a blank up front.
The home and away split is where the profile becomes clear. At home Tottenham scored in 84.5% but conceded in only 64.9%, and BTTS landed 54.1% of the time across 399 matches. Away, they scored in 78.2% and conceded in 76.2%, so the two halves sit almost level, and BTTS rose to 59.4% over the same number of games.
BTTS needs both legs; the lower leg caps how often it can land.

| Tottenham scored | Opponent scored | |
|---|---|---|
| All matches (798 matches) | 81.3% | 70.6% |
| Home matches (399 matches) | 84.5% | 64.9% |
| Away matches (399 matches) | 78.2% | 76.2% |
I read this as a defensive story. Tottenham's attack travels reasonably well. Their ability to keep opponents out doesn't. On the road the opponent's goal stops being the weak half of the bet, and that is the condition I look for before I back BTTS Yes.
Exhibit BTottenham's gap over the league has narrowed across eras
Tottenham have been above the league average in every era, but by a shrinking margin. In 2005/06–2009/10 they ran at 56.8% against a league figure of 47.5%, a gap of +9.3 points. By 2015/16–2019/20 the gap was +3.4, and in 2020/21–2025/26 it was +3.6.
The 2015/16–2019/20 era is the instructive one. Tottenham conceded just 0.96 per game then, BTTS dropped to 54.2%, and the fair price drifted to 1.85. In the most recent era, conceding rose to 1.45 per game, BTTS went back up to 57.9%, and fair odds came in to 1.73.
| Seasons | Matches | BTTS | League | Gap (pts) | Fair odds | Goals for–against |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2005/06–2009/10 | 190 | 56.8% | 47.5% | +9.3 | 1.76 | 1.52–1.26 |
| 2010/11–2014/15 | 190 | 57.9% | 52.2% | +5.7 | 1.73 | 1.58–1.25 |
| 2015/16–2019/20 | 190 | 54.2% | 50.8% | +3.4 | 1.85 | 1.88–0.96 |
| 2020/21–2025/26 | 228 | 57.9% | 54.3% | +3.6 | 1.73 | 1.72–1.45 |
Two points follow from this. The league itself has become more BTTS-friendly, so Spurs stand out less than they used to. Their own rate also tracks how leaky the back line is in a given spell. I weigh the current defensive setup well above the long-run number.
Exhibit CThe BTTS edge disappears when Tottenham are short favourites
Splitting by Tottenham's own match-winner price shows exactly where the club-specific edge sits. When they were priced under 1.60, BTTS landed in 46.6% of 191 matches, slightly below the 47.8% for other clubs at the same price. In those games they look like any other heavy favourite.
Once the price lengthens, the gap opens. At 1.60–1.99 it was 58.1% against 52.1%. At 2.00–2.99, the largest sample with 263 matches, it was 61.6% against 53.4%. At 3.00+ it was 59.3% against 50.4%.
Bar ends = 95% range for the club rate.

| Other clubs at this price | Tottenham | 95% range | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 1.60 (191 matches) | 47.8% | 46.6% | ±7.1 |
| 1.60–1.99 (172 matches) | 52.1% | 58.1% | ±7.4 |
| 2.00–2.99 (263 matches) | 53.4% | 61.6% | ±5.9 |
| 3.00+ (172 matches) | 50.4% | 59.3% | ±7.3 |
My takeaway is that 'Spurs games are BTTS games' is lazy when they are odds-on and comfortable. The pattern belongs to evenly matched and underdog fixtures, where they still create chances but can't control the game without the ball.
Exhibit DA BTTS Yes tends to be followed by another
For most clubs the last result tells you nothing. Other Premier League sides hit BTTS 51.3% of the time after a Yes and 51.1% after a No, which is effectively the same. Tottenham are different. After a BTTS Yes their next league match landed 59.5% of the time across 440 games, against 54.0% after a No across 337.
That points to spells of form, or of defensive fragility, carrying over from week to week. Their longest BTTS run was 9 matches. The longest run without it was 8, so cold streaks happen too.
Same-season matches only; bar ends = 95% range.

| Other league clubs | Tottenham | 95% range | |
|---|---|---|---|
| After a BTTS Yes (440 matches) | 51.3% | 59.5% | ±4.6 |
| After a BTTS No (337 matches) | 51.1% | 54.0% | ±5.3 |
I treat this as a tiebreaker rather than a reason to bet. The gap is moderate, and the uncertainty bands on the chart overlap. It does give me some extra confidence when a recent Yes lines up with an away fixture at a longer win price.
Dossier verdict
Case closed- Favour Tottenham away games
Away BTTS ran at 59.4% against 54.1% at home, because the opponent scored in 76.2% of away matches. Start your Spurs BTTS thinking on the road.
- Skip short-priced home favourites
Under 1.60 to win, BTTS landed only 46.6%, slightly below other clubs at that price. The club's BTTS reputation doesn't apply in these games.
- Check the back line first
Rates tracked defensive form, from 54.2% in the 0.96-conceded era to 57.9% when conceding rose to 1.45. Before you rely on the long-run base rate, look at Tottenham's current defensive injuries and goalkeeper form.
